Dr. Zhang graduated from Shanghai Medical University, and was appointed a tenure professor of Fudan University in 2007 and the director of the department of infectious diseases of Huashan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University in 2010.  In 2001, Dr. Zhang accepted postdoctoral training in the Department of Microbiology, at Hong Kong University. In 2003,he was appointed to the position of research fellow at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, affiliated to Harvard Medical School. In 2006, he worked as senior visiting scholar in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, at The University of Illinois, in Chicago. He has been engaged in clinical, educational and research work relating to infectious diseases for more than 20 years and have been an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of bacterial and viral infections, especially tuberculosis and HIV- TB co-infection. Up to now, he have published over 90 papers as first author, correspondence author or co-author.  Currently he is the associate chairman of the Society of Infecious Diseases of Chinese Medical Association Shanghai Branch.
